Le Pays éloigné

All three movements of this quartet freely paraphrase repertoire pieces spanning several centuries. Like familiar ghosts haunting me every so often, or very dear friends once so close but now gone, they begged me to give them a new life albeit under a different guise…

F. Schubert’s lied Erlkönig, G.F. Haendel’s Sarabande for keyboard and C. Janequin’s polyphonic song Le chant des oyseaux respectively incarnate the 19th, 18th and 16th centuries.

The Daphnis Quartet premiered Le pays éloigné (The remote country) on Nov. 11, 2018, at Théâtre Saint-Louis in Pau (France).
