Carl Maria von Weber schrieb sein Klarinettenkonzert f-moll 1811 im Lauf weniger Wochen für Heinrich Joseph Baermann (1784–1847), den Klarinettisten der Münchner Hofkapelle, dem das Werk auch gewidmet ist. Die Uraufführung fand am 13. Juni 1811 in München mit großem Erfolg statt. Im Druck erschien das f-moll-Konzert erst 1822.
Das Werk weist die klassische dreisätzige Form auf. Außergewöhnlich sind dabei zwei kleine hochromantische Kammermusiksätze für Klarinette und Horntrio, die den Mittelteil und die Schlusstakte des Adagios darstellen.
Hauptquelle der vorliegenden Urtext-Ausgabe ist das Autograph. Der Anhang enthält die Kadenz Baermanns zum ersten Satz sowie die beiden erwähnten Hornpassagen in einer aufführungspraktischen Streicherbearbeitung des Komponisten.
