Eight Classic Solos for the Student Violists
English composer William Squire (1871 - 1963) was renowned as a cello virtuoso, as well as a composer. His numerous instrumental works included several solos for cello with piano accompaniment that he performed on his concert tours. This collection, originally published for cello and piano, includes many of these popular works, such as the jaunty At Morn, the picturesque Cradle Song, and the impetuous Tarantella. These pieces, like many other cello standards, translate beautifully to the viola, with its similar tuning, strings, and range. These classic Squire melodies have been carefully transcribed and edited for the violist, with instrument-specific fingering and position suggestions, offering a wonderful new addition to the violist’s library of concert and contest repertoire.
