Choir Library II

Following the music of Lent at the end of the first volume, the second volume of Breitkopf & Härtel Choir Library for Mixed Choir – Sacred Repertoire starts with choral works for the Passion, beginning with the liturgy of the Holy Week. These are naturally followed by music for Easter and the Sundays of Eastertide, i.e. Misericordias Domini, Jubilate and Cantate, in the altogether sixth section.

Due to its high importance, Ascension Day forms a section of its own although it is actually part of Eastertide. Compositions for Pentecost with a focus on the Holy Ghost conclude the second volume of sacred works for mixed choir in the overall eighth section. Once more, the represented composers range from the Renaissance to the 20th century – from Palestrina, Gesualdo and Monteverdi via Mendelssohn and Reger to Johann Nepomuk David, Kurt Thomas and Günter Raphael.
