Wie schon im berühmten "Golliwogg's cakewalk" (aus "Children's Corner") greift Debussy auch in "Le petit Nègre" zum synkopierten Cakewalk-Rhythmus, um ein amüsantes Bild des kleinen, durch die Straßen schlendernden Kindes zu geben.
