Dr. Matthias Hutzel, born in Stuttgart, studied musicology, German language and literature and history in Tübingen, Kiel and Paris; doctorate under Prof. Fritz Reckow with a thesis on the polyphonic repertoire of Notre-Dame in Paris in the 12th/13th century. After working for classical labels in Munich and Hamburg, he switched to the book industry in 1992. In addition to publications as publishers of works by Mendelssohn and Zelenka, he published various music journalistic articles, especially on music from the Middle Ages to the Classical period. In addition to his interest in the "Early Music" collection and its revitalization, he pays particular attention to the critical review of a constantly growing audio book production and the definition of quality criteria for the "audio book". Juror of the German Record Critics’ Prize since 1994.
