for Trombone and Piano
Composed for virtuoso trombone soloist Yu Tamaki Hoso, Samuel Adler’s TWO SIDES OF A COIN is reminiscent of an introduction and allegro, balancing substantive musicality with dazzling technical feats. The first section (Slowly) explores the lyrical power of the trombone, showcasing its full range in emotionally charged dialogue with the piano. The second (Fast and rhythmic) is inventive and surprising, dancing effortlessly between intensity and levity, all requiring thrilling agility from the soloist.
